About Malificent Images

The artist known as Malificent (aka. Mal) started his photographic journey in 2008 after a fateful thrift store find of a Pentax P30.

Through the years, Mal has amassed an agnostic and extensive collection of iconic cameras and lenses to tailor a look for any client request and requirement. Marrying a passion for traditional techniques and outlandish concepts steeped in pop culture, Mal doesn’t just record subjects but their feel and essence, striving for technical precision and tongue in cheek humour.

Professionally, Mal has taken on the position as the 2011 President of the University of Sydney Photographic Society and has subsequently spent a career in photographic wholesale, distribution and specialist retail functioning as a product demonstrator, trainer and lighting specialist.

Focusing on his passion in the field of fashion and portraiture with an emphasis on sculpted lighting, Mal still maintains a foot in the advertising and lifestyle asset creation world. Malificent Images has produced content and support for brands such as Ricoh, Samsung, Sony, Rotolight, Lensbaby, Pentax, SLR Magic and Profoto.
